Yekaterinburg to Hold Public Hearings on Relocating Detention Ward
26 July 2011 (16:54)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, July 25, 2011. The meeting of the Law Enforcement Agencies Control Committee and Sverdlovsk Region division of the Federal Penitentiary Service was dedicated to the conditions in which the suspects and the convicted individuals live in Yekaterinburg detention ward No. 1 in Repin St, Oblastnaya Gazeta reports.
‘Both the regional and the municipal authorities have done a lot and keep working on making Yekaterinburg an investor-attractive city that is comfortable to live in. The city hosts events of global importance like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit or the Euro-Asian Law Congress on a regular basis. We are currently preparing for the World Cup 2018. So it is quite absurd that we happen to have a penitentiary establishment right in the center of the city,’ says lawyer Vladimir Vinnitsky, the author of the newspaper piece.
Sverdlovsk Region Public Chamber intends to coordinate public hearings on the matter in the nearest future.
