The shareholders of Uralsvyazinform (the Urals’ major telecommunications provider) elected their new Board of Directors in the course of the annual general meeting in Perm. According to Uralsvyazinform’s report, only eleven out of twenty-four proposed BOD members were actually voted for. These were: Evgeniy Yurchenko, Alla Grigorieva, Eduard Lebedev, Mikhail Batmanov, Olga Koroleva, Elena Umnova, Mikhail Leschenko, Alexander Provorotov, Sergey Kerber, Dmitriy Tushnov, and Anatoly Ufimkin.

Prices keep collapsing on the Russian stock market. As regards MICEX stock exchange, blue chips dropped in price by an average of 3% in the very first minutes of business today. The RTS index decreased by more than 1%, dropping below 1,900. Shares of LUKOIL and Surgutneftegaz decreased by over 3%, those of UralSvyazInform and Rostelecom by nearly 4%, reports RosBusinessConsulting.

The BOD of Uralsvyazinform (Urals’ major telecommunications provider) decided that the company’s current General Director Anatoly Ufimkin can resign before the end of his term and that Sergey Lukash should be appointed the company’s new GD. The extraordinary general meeting of OAO Uralsvyazinform’s stockholders will take place on January 21, 2010. The telecommunications provider reports that the meeting has to be organized upon the request of OAO Svyazinvest which owns 16,608,946,183 ordinary shares of the company. OAO Uralsvyazinform is now being taken over by Rostelecom, which is why 1,740 people are supposed to be laid off at the end of 2010 and the first half of 2011.
