‘Magnitogorsk’s first metal goods plant started operating in September 1941, when evacuated equipment from metal goods manufacturing plants arrived from six Soviet cities. The appliances were housed within two industrial sites, which then evolved into two plants: a metal goods/metallurgical one and a calibrating one. Yekaterinburg came No. 6 among fifteen Russian cities with the population of over a million people. The ministry gave the city’s urban environment a score of 188. Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Kazan were the top three cities in the rating.

A London- and Berlin-based female artist’s May residence has been postponed till a later date. Yekaterinburg-based Anastasia Bogomolova will step in instead, Brusnika’s press service informs UrBC.

The need for Venturi valves has soared since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Rusatom can make up to 300 valves a week. The valves get made from bio-compatible polymeric materials and need no additional treatment.

According to the company’s press service, Ural Airlines supported the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya)’s initiative to coordinate the necessary evacuation flights. The airline worked in partnership with Rosaviatsiya, Russia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, and the Russian Federation Embassy in Delhi to be granted the permission to operate the flights.

‘Passengers on the embassy’s list with tickets for Ural Airlines and Aeroflot’s scheduled India-Russia flights will be able to go on evacuation flights. The Bank of Russia decided to keep the key rate at 6% p.a. at the end of last week (March 20). The CBR commented that the current weakening of the ruble was seen as a temporary pro-inflation factor brought about by plummeting oil prices, COVID-19 pandemic, and increased global economic uncertainty in the medium term.

Now prior to the CBR’s March meeting, there was plenty of speculation within the banking community and among banking analysts as to what decision the CBR’s Board of Directors would take in the end.

‘The key rate remained at its current percentage, which only makes sense: the Central Bank needs a clearer economic picture to make the decision to bring the key rate up or down, and this picture is currently missing. This set of preventative measures was suggested to the town mayors by Sverdlovsk Region’s Ministry for Energy & Utilities, Yekaterinburg Council’s website states.

According to acting Chair of the Board at NEYVA Bank Konstantin Levushkin, the Russian Central Bank currently tends to look closely into a bank’s business model, that is, a bank’s way of making money (if any), and into the way the global market situation and the weakening Russian ruble could affect a particular bank’s business model.

‘Our business model has been rather conservative, risk-wise, from the very beginning. We do not invest in shares, do not act as venture investors, and do not resort to other risky finance options. Up until the start of this year, we didn’t use to issue loans to businesses, so our corporate loan book amounted to zero. So we were risk-free in this respect. NEYVA Bank’s business used to be based on the cash management services we could offer business customers. The balance we end up with gets invested in highly reliable, highly liquid securities such as federal loan bonds and the CBR bonds.

We also deal in foreign exchange trading and offer loans and cash management services to private customers. The only risks involved are lending-related ones, but these risks are much lower in the private loan segment compared with the corporate loan one: experience has shown that every private borrower pays their loan off sooner or later.

So, a market standstill results in low volatility, the rates go down, as do both our profit margins and earnings, and making money gets harder. According to MMK’s Information & PR Department, Shilyayev gave a talk on how the company manages to reduce its environmental impact and thus to improve Magnitogorsk’s environment.

‘MMK’s ten-year development strategy (adopted in 2010) covers over $7bn worth of investments in production upgrades and provides for a significant drop in the company’s environmental impact,’ Shilyayev said.

MMK implemented a number of important green projects in 2015-2019, building a new sulphur-filtering facility, a THF gas-filtering unit, a blast furnace dust-collecting unit, a special-purpose dam, and new Sintering Plant 5 with twenty highly efficient impact-reducing appliances. The company invested RUB 20bn into the projects in these five years.
