The Interregional Federal Tax Service Inspectorate laid a claim against UralSvyazInform, the local mobile operator, demanding that the defendant pay 690m RUR worth of taxes and fines that it allegedly failed to pay in 2003-2004. The taxes come to 567.7m, with fines adding up to another 122.1m RUR, of which 448.2m comprise the income tax the inspectorate never received and 117.9m comprise the VAT. This information was reported by the spokesperson for UralSvyazInform; the spokesperson says the company is going to appeal against the claim.

Rescue teams are still operating at the site of an air-gas mixture explosion in UralCement JSC (based in the village of Pervomayskaya in Korkino District). On October 29, 2006, an air-gas mixture explosion occurred at No. 2 firing house of UralCement JSC. The explosion had been caused by a sudden gas pressure jump that resulted in a gas escape and a gas bolt fracture at the technological gas pipeline. Net profit of Chelyabinsk Steel Sheet Plant went down by 66.7% in the third quarter of 2006. According to the company’s press release, this was effected by the drop in sales and increase in the expenses (including those connected with the growing railroad shipment tariffs). The company’s net profit went down from 7,187,000 RUR in the second quarter to 2,404,000 RUR in the third quarter of 2006 (the decrease amounted to 4,783,000 RUR).
