UrBC, Chelyabinsk, April 20, 2020. ChelPipe Group’s Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant is working on a project to upgrade the plant’s large-diameter pipe quality control system. Before the end of the year, two new laser control units will get launched on site, and an ultrasound testing unit will also get launched in 2021. The project will require more than RUB 150 million worth of investments all in all.
‘The new appliances will make it possible to detect surface defects of a steel sheet and to control the quality of the welded seam and the area around it. This means zero faulty metal sheets will end up in the production cycle, while the automatic control of the welded seam quality will improve through the elimination of the human factor,’ the Group’s press service says.
The testing units have been designed by a Russian manufacturer in accordance with ChelPipe Group’s specifications and are currently unique to Russia. The equipment is now undergoing startup and commissioning at Vysota 239, the Group’s flagship white-coated metallurgy department.
