Omsktransmash finds orders for casting department

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, September 30, 2015. Omsktransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) managed to secure enough customer orders to keep its casting department running and thus reduce the number of prospective layoffs considerably, the corporation’s press service reports.

The company management announced three months earlier that 454 positions were being done away with; eighty of these were vacant at the time, and 374 workers were informed that they would have to be made redundant.

Thanks to the new orders, only 39 actual workers would have to be let go, and 115 vacant positions will be eliminated. 25 people have already trained to work at the plant’s other departments and 16 people left. The rest of the team are staying at the department.

‘We’ve been trying to find a way out all this time, fully aware of the fact that we can’t afford to lose our skilled workers. Once again on the labor market, these people would have a hard time finding a new job, given their narrow field and the country’s challenging economic situation. In the end, we were able to find enough orders to keep the place running and most of the staff working,’ says the plant’s First Deputy DG Georgiy Chevdar.
