Sverdlovsk Region’s Defense Industry’s Output to Go up 30% in 2012

By August 2012, Sverdlovsk Region’s industrial production index has already exceeded the figures for the seven months of 2011 by 12%, while the volume of shipped industrial goods and services rendered amounted to 787bn RUR. October 19 The industrial production index for all the enterprises operating in Sverdlovsk Region in January-September 2012 exceeded the figures for January-September 2011 by 8.7%, the regional Economics Ministry reports. Compared with a year earlier, the actual industrial production volumes rose most in the machine-building and equipment manufacturing industry (+44.8%), in the chemicals industry (+42.3%), in the rubber and plastic goods industry (+22.6%), in the electronic and optical equipment industry (+18.7%), in the food manufacturing industry (including drinks and tobacco) (+15.1%), and

President of Sverdlovsk Region Defense Industry Enterprises Union Sergey Maksin said at a recent meeting that twenty-three out of the region’s thirty-seven defense companies obtained a full set of state orders, the Governor’s PR Department reports. Most of these enterprises have already received advance payments on these orders. At the same time, Sverdlovsk Region still owes about 343 million RUR to the local defense industry. Maksin believes one effective way to get the money is to take legal action. However, he encouraged the heads of companies to try and reach an out-of-court settlement.

‘Uralvagonzavod Scientific and Production Enterprise did receive the state order for some defense industry products, but it still hasn’t got any civil produce orders. Russian Railways Public Company, for instance, only placed the order for 6,000 gondola cars in 2009, even though the two companies’ original agreement for 2008-2010 provided for the delivery of 40,500 gondola cars. In 2012, the amount of foreign investment rocketed in Sverdlovsk Region, while direct foreign investment actually doubled from $88.5m in 2011 to $192.9m in 2012, Sverdlovsk Region Government’s Press Service & Information Department reports. Sverdlovsk Region First Deputy Economics Minister Anatoly Ogloblin also said in his report on the region’s socioeconomic development program for 2012 that Sverdlovsk Region got a much better position in the rating of Russian Federation constituencies than a year earlier. For one, the region rose from the 51st position in 2011 to the 16th
