Vanadium produces most waste in 2010

According to the recent preliminary estimates, Sverdlovsk Region’s enterprises produced about 172,889,600 tons of waste last year, while the amount of recycled waste came to 71,444,500 tons, the report on the region’s environmental status in 2010 says.

The company that was responsible for most of the waste was OAO Vanadium Kachkanar Ore Mining & Processing Enterprise. In 2010, the company produced 45,974,000 tons of waste and recycled 6,485,600 tons.

Ural Asbestos Ore Mining & Processing Enterprise, with its 36,401,000 tons of manufactured waste and 17,961,700 tons of recycled waste, was the second major waste-maker, followed by OAO Svyatogor (17,695,100 tons of waste), ZAO Zoloto Severnogo Urala (9,752,300 tons), Uralelectromed (5,345,900 tons) and others. There are fourteen enterprises on the list altogether.

All in all, 1,218 sealed-up facilities meant for the storage of production and consumption waste were registered in Sverdlovsk Region last year against 1,308 facilities in 2009, and 116 reclaimed areas against 121 areas in 2009.
