18 June 2010 (09:01)

‘The accusations related to an explosion at Evraz Group’s Vysokogorskiy Ore Mining & Processing Enterprise’s Yestyuninskaya mine will have to be faced by the administrator of the underground on-site storage. I am not going to mention his name for the sake of investigative purposes. The man was fired after the criminal proceedings began and is now in his own custody, with a travel restriction imposed,’ Chief Assistant to the Head of Sverdlovsk Region Investigative Committee under the General Prosecutor’s Office’s Investigative Department Alexander Shulga announced at a press conference today.

‘It was detected in the process of the inquiry that it was due to the storage administrator’s actions that the explosion was triggered by a short-circuit failure. The precise actions consisted in having 4,000 tons of ammoniates transported together with some initiating devices. The explosion left nine people dead. The investigation of the explosion at Evraz Group’s Vysokogorskiy Ore Mining & Processing Enterprise’s Yestyuninskaya mine might be completed as soon as June 2010,’ Shulga said.
