Hot line set up for bank’s victims in Yekaterinburg

29 April 2010 (14:00)

Yekaterinburg dwellers who have been oppressed by ZAO Russian Standard Bank can now call a hot line number provided by the local division of Russia’s Young Lawyers. The number is +7 (343) 362-83-06, the organization’s representative in Ural Federal District Evgeniy Ryakin said to an UrBC reporter.

‘This hot line will be available for as long as will be necessary; we intend to deal with calls and institute legal proceedings against the bank,’ he explained.

Ryakin reports the hot line was organized in order to prevent the scenario of Nizhniy Tagil, Sverdlovsk Region.

Now Nizhniy Tagil’s division of Russia’s Young Lawyers got a number of people to sign a petition to the Russian Federation General Prosecutor’s Office, to the President’s Administration, and to Rospotrebnadzor (the state consumer rights watchdog) in February 2010. In this petition, the organization asked the authorities to carry an investigation of Russian Standard Bank’s actions.

Evgeniy Ryakin says they keep receiving a lot of complaints regarding the methods the bank employs to make the people pay off their loans. The lawyers have also detected that the bank appears to violate the existing legislation (the Russian Federation Civil Code, for instance) in the way its loan agreements are written out.

Ryakin feels they might consider filing a similar petition in Yekaterinburg as well.
