The federal statisticians report 485,400 square meters of housing were put up in Sverdlovsk Region in January-June 2008, which exceeds the figures for a year earlier by 22.8%. 5,168 apartments have been put up altogether (compared with 4,216 apartments in January-June 2007).

Twenty-five municipalities, including Yekaterinburg, Asbest, Sysertskiy district, Beloyarskiy district, and Nevyanskiy district, did particularly well and managed to raise their housing construction output by 1.3, 2.4, 2, 1.4, and 2.1 times, respectively.

The region’s dwellers managed to have 278,600 square meters worth of housing constructed with their own or borrowed money in the first half of 2008, which exceeded the figures for January-June 2007 by 23.7%. The share of private houses in the total housing output came to 57.4% in Sverdlovsk Region and to 26.9% in Yekaterinburg.

At the same time, the data provided by the Plenipotentiary Representative of Russian Federation President in Ural Federal District’s administration look less rosy. These figures state only 18% of the planned annual housing output have been put up in Sverdlovsk Region by June 1, 2008. Tyumen Region and Kurgan Region did better and had 39% and 31% of the annual housing output built by that time. This means these are Ural Federal District’s only regions to deal with the housing construction in an orderly way.
