Fire breaks out and causes death of seven people at sheet-rolling shop of Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Magnitogorsk

An accident occurred at Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Magnitogorsk yesterday. According to the press officer for Chelyabinsk Region Department of Emergencies, fire broke out at the sheet-rolling shop of the Complex at 7.30 PM and covered the area of 1,000 square meters, resulting in the 1,200-square-meter roof failure. There were fourteen people there at the moment, working with the four tubs full of hydrochloric acid, five rinse tanks, and wringer rolls. Eight of them were injured and evacuated; six people were sent to hospitals with varying gravity of condition, and two of them received first aid. Six men and one woman were killed. The fire was put out at 2 AM today. The preliminary data appear to indicate that it had been caused by some violations in the technological aspects of production. The accident is currently under investigation; the best part of the company’s production was not damaged, so the company keeps operating as usual.
