Board of Directors of Chelyabinsky Metallurgichesky Kombinat JSC (Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Chelyabinsk, member of Mechel JSC), made the decision to set up a subsidiary association Spetsstal Ltd. and grant it on a lease the existing company’s production of special and alloy steels facilities. This was reported to UrBC representative by PR-department of Chelyabinsky Metallurgichesky Kombinat.
Spetsstal Ltd. is to function on the basis of electric furnace steelmaking shop No. 3 and the press shop of Chelyabinsky Metallurgichesky Kombinat. These shops specialize in production of special and alloy steels and of the forged goods of the mentioned range. Alexey Smirnov, the former manager of special and alloy steels production unit of Chelyabinsky Metallurgichesky Kombinat, is appointed GD of Spetsstal Ltd.
Leasing of Chelyabinsky Metallurgichesky Kombinat production facilities is to restrict the future development of Spetsstal Ltd to special and alloy steels production and to make it come up with the appropriate production and technological policy.
In 2005, Chelyabinsky Metallurgichesky Kombinat produced about 90,000 tons of special and alloy steels and about 63,000 tons of goods made of special and alloy steels (a decrease by 32% and 14% compared to 2004).
