Sverdlovsk Region: 1,500 Credit Card Crimes

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, November 8, 2019. 48,653 crimes got registered in Sverdlovsk Region in January-October 2019, which exceeded the figures for one year earlier by 5.4%, Sverdlovsk Region’s public prosecution authorities report.

50.1% of these were minor crimes and 22% pertained to grave offenses/felonies.

14.5% of crimes involved the use of IT and telecom technologies, including 1,572 crimes that involved bank cards, 877 crimes that involved computers, 291 crimes that involved software, 4,073 crimes that involved the Internet, and 3,338 crimes that involved mobile communication channels/devices.

Additionally, 26.2% of crimes to do with illegal drug trade, 55% of frauds, and 9.4% of thefts also involved the use of IT and telecom technologies,

Over a half (53.9%) of all the registered crimes have to do with stealing through theft (70.8%), fraud (20.2%), embezzlement (1.4%), robbery (5.3%), and armed robbery (0.7%).

37.8% of the registered crimes were committed in public spaces, including 11,009 crimes committed in streets, squares, and parks (-4.2%); this included 483 robberies (-11.4%), 4,710 thefts (-4.3%), and 66 armed/violent robberies (-27.5%).

89.2% of the crimes (43,382) were committed in cities and smaller towns and 5,263 crimes were committed in rural areas.

27,631 crimes were investigated in January-October 2019 (-1.7% on a year earlier).
