UrBC, Yekaterinburg, November 17, 2015. Two new EDM machines have been launched at Ural Vagon Zavod Corporation’s head plant recently.
The company press service reports the machines were purchased within the framework of the national defense industry retooling program. Both of them have been launched, with the startup and commissioning performed by the supplier. The machine operators spent a week’s training at the manufacturing plant.
‘The advantage of this equipment is that it can be used for a wide variety of purposes and is more productive than its older counterparts. The electrode can be shaped in many ways, which means we can treat spots that are usually inaccessible mechanically as well as treat any parts made of conductive materials such as steels, alloys, aluminum, and so on,’ the press service says.
‘Our department is in charge of manufacturing preparation of our new products: a mineral wagon, a bulk-cement transport unit, and the innovative make of Railcar 196. Getting a new product launched always means a lot of work, so the new equipment is expected to make the task easier,’ says head of the stamping department Vassiliy Kuznetsov.
The EDM machines operate on the latest-generation NC programs to ensure a higher level of automation.
