May 15, 2015. Over 20 tax crimes were detected in Sverdlovsk Region in the first quarter of 2015, Deputy Head of Sverdlovsk Region division of Russia’s Federal Tax Service’s Control Department Viktor Bachurin announced at a press conference.

According to the data he provided, tax authorities submitted files for 237 tax inspections to investigative authorities last year; as a result, forty-four criminal lawsuits were instituted by the investigative committee. In the first quarter of 2015, forty-eight files were submitted, resulting in twenty-two criminal lawsuits. Six cases are related to tax evasion by private individuals, thirteen – to tax evasion by businesses, two – to tax evasion by a fiscal agent, and one case is related to concealment of monetary resources.

’44 suits were instituted in the twelve months of 2014 and as many as 22 in the first three months of 2015. This has to do, among other factors, with more efficient administration of fiscal processes, which means more tax crimes get revealed,’ Bachurin said.
