Yekaterinburg to get Hermitage-Urals Center

29 January 2015 (09:21)

January 29, 2015. Head of Yekaterinburg Council Culture Department Tatiana Yaroshevskaya presented a project on Hermitage-Urals Center, the city council’s press service reports.

‘Yekaterinburg (known as Sverdlovsk at the time) was the only city to store the State Hermitage Museum’s unique collections. Thus it would be only fair to open Hermitage-Urals Center at our Fine Arts Museum. The State Hermitage experts, including the museum’s Director Mikhail Piotrovsky, have visited Yekaterinburg quite a number of times; these visits resulted in the architectural and conceptual project. We have a full understanding of the fact that the State Hermitage management sets quite hard-to-meet requirements for its projects,’ Yaroshevskaya said.

Hermitage-Urals is to be located at Yekaterinburg Fine Arts Museum at 11 Vainer St: this was here where the State Hermitage collections and the museum workers were evacuated during the war. In the future, the fine arts museum’s exhibits will be relocated at 16 Vainer St, and Hermitage-Urals will be installed in their place.
