September 2, 2013. SKB-Bank got more than 10,000 loan applications in one week, including applications from parents who are sending their children to school.

The bank’s press officer reports that the beginning of the fall is typically one of the most expense-loaded periods of the year.

‘People are coming back from their vacations, getting new cars, furniture, and home appliances and sending their children to school. This is why late August and early September is the time when increasingly more people apply for a loan,’ the press officer explains.

According to the Public Opinion Fund, 90% of parents bought some school supplies for their children by the start of the school year. 88% bought new uniform, 74% purchased new sports wear, and 70% bought a school bag or a backpack for their school-age children. Slightly more than a half of schoolchildren’s parents are going to spend some money of flowers for the teachers as well, and 20% will also get the teachers some presents.

School uniform, admittedly the most expensive item on the shopping list, will cost between 3,000 and 5,000 RUR for most parents; school supplies will come to about 1,000 RUR; quite a few parents are also planning to buy some extra textbooks. Some 50% of parents feel the cost of getting their child ready for school is too great, and many of them take out a bank loan.
