Russian Vice Premier Arkady Dvorkovitch now chairs the committee for the promotion of Yekaterinburg’s EXPO 2020 application, the Governor’s PR Department reports.

‘You appointed Arkady V. Dvorkovitch head of this committee, and this is a great advantage,’ Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuivashev said at a meeting with Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev.

He said he was thankful for Medvedev’s giving his personal support to the idea of Yekaterinburg applying for EXPO 2020.

“We are already looking for international protection for our campaign. The next presentation is expected to take place in Paris this November, and that’s where Arkady V. Dvorkovitch’s delegation will be invited. And in the spring we hope to invite you, Dmitri Anatolyevitch,’ the Governor added.

Medvedev replied that what mattered most was ‘to keep the pressure high’.

The Prime Minister emphasized that hosting an international exhibition as well as other large-scale events in Yekaterinburg was ‘not only the way of presenting the country and the region’s status’ but also the motivation to solve socioeconomic problems using the concentrated funds and resources.

‘I don’t know whether Yekaterinburg will win in this selection process, but this will still be a good stimulus to develop the city’s engineering infrastructure and to work on a whole range of big tasks that Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk Region face,’ Medvedev said.
