21 March 2012 (09:19)

The public prosecution authorities of Yekaterinburg Verkh-Isetsky District and experts from Ural State Assay Supervision Inspectorate checked one of jewellery stores located at 87 Metallurgov St in Yekaterinburg for compliance with the existing legislation on precious metals and precious stones.

In fact, the store is located in MEGA Shopping Center.

According to Article 10 (part 3) of the Federal Precious Metals and Precious Stones Act, Russia is a country with the state monopoly over assaying of and marking with the state assay mark pieces of jewellery and other consumer goods made of precious metals.

Yet the expert examination of some jewellery bearing 14-carat gold mark that was taken from the store has shown that some items have fake assay marks with Verkhne-Volzhskaya State Assay Supervision Inspectorate’s name on them.

The prosecution authorities directed all the files relating to the case to Police Department 8 of Yekaterinburg Division of Internal Affairs Department; the police officers instituted criminal proceedings against the store, with charges based on Article 181 (part 1) of the Russian Federation Criminal Code (violation of rules set for making and using state assay marks).

The district prosecution authorities are monitoring the proceedings.
