MMK Plate Mill 5000 Reaches Full Capacity
2 February 2012 (09:23)
This January, 74,500 tons of ready goods were manufactured at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) sheet-rolling department 9 (aka Mill 5000). In February and March 2012, the mill is expected to reach its full working capacity, MMK’s PR Department reports.
Mill 5000 has mastered both hot- and cold-rolling technologies as well as the ways of making sheets varying in thickness and width, depending on the maximum requirements on the part of large-diameter pipe consumers. The department also manufactures steel sheets with strength grade X70. Among Mill 5000’s key customers are Chelyabinsk and Volzhsky Tube Rolling Plants and Vyksunsky Metallurgical Plant.
‘Russia’s largest project in the field of ferrous metallurgy over the last decade, Mill 5000 was launched in the summer of 2009 and provided a great proof of the effectiveness of the development strategy adopted by MMK’s management. This strategy is targeted at creating an up-to-date production site and producing goods with high value-added that enjoy demand most notably in Russia,’ MMK reports.
Mill 5000 produced 899,000 tons of goods last year and 2,001,000 tons since sheet-rolling department 9 was first launched.
