Authorities look into hunger strike at airport

15.04.2010
The Chairman of the Federal Trade Union of the Russian Air Dispatchers’ Ural division Mikhail Abramov was recently asked to pay a visit to the regional public prosecution authorities’ transportation unit.

According to Mr. Abramov, the authorities only wanted to be put into the picture.

‘They asked me to explain what was going on among the air dispatchers at the airport. I told them they wanted to support their colleagues from Rostov-on-Don and so went on strike to show their sympathy for the case,’ he said.

The clash between the management and the trade union, which started in March 2010, turned into a hunger strike last weekend. On April 11, 2010 a number of air dispatchers’ trade union members employed with the branch of Ural Air Navigation Federal State Unitary Enterprise refused to take any food after their night shift in order to support the dispatchers from Rostov-on-Don and to make the management adopt some changes to the current collective agreement.
