Bogoslovskiy smelter to cut back on production

According to Sergey Verkhoturov, Mayor of Krasnoturyinsk, Sverdlovsk Region, the towns budget revenues were much smaller in 2009 than the year before.

We receive less from the towns major enterprises, including UC RUSALs Bogoslovskiy smelter. The reason for this is that the plant had to shut down 35% of its aluminum production facilities and to lay off over 1,000 workers, the Mayor said.

The smelters aluminum production shrank by 37% last year. This year, the plant will probably keep cutting back on production and laying off employees. UC RUSALs Moscow headquarters wont listen to any reasons we give, Sergey Verkhoturov explained.

In fact, we had certain agreements. For one, the company meets all its obligations as far as Severouralsk bauxite mine is concerned, and this plants production output is actually on the increase, said Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Alexander Misharin.

The Governor promised that the issue of Bogoslovskiy smelter would be considered at the government meeting, with the plants stockholders present as well.
