MegaFon Partners with Other Carriers to Develop 5G

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December13, 2019. MegaFon, Rostelecom, VimpelCom, and MTS signed an agreement of intentions to work together on the development of the fifth-generation communication networks in Russia.

According to MegaFon's press service, the parties are looking into ways they could join their efforts in order to introduce the 5G subsystem within priority frequency ranges.

'We are also considering setting up a joint venture. In case a JV does get established, the company will deal in electromagnetic compatibility research and in finding new slots within the RF spectri of 700 MHz, 3.4-3.8 GHz, 4.4-4.99 GHz, and 24.25-29.5 GHz in all parts of Russia, as well as within any other 5G-suited frequency range,' MegaFon says.

MegaFon says the JV will have to find the frequency potential that would be enough for the parties involved to build their own 5G networks. The four telecom companies will be able to use the RF spectrum the JV finds on equal terms.

'I'm sure that the telecom companies working together to establish 5G standards in Russia will open up a dialogue with the state and will enable the parties to launch a new-generation communication standard that will boost promising technologies and will open the great world of digital opportunities to our customers,' says MegaFon's Director-General Gevork Vermishyan.
