21.11.2019
UrBC, Chelyabinsk, November 21, 2019. Russia’s State Expert Evaluation Department (GlavGosExpertiza) approved of the project to reclaim the country’s largest landfill in Chelyabinsk, Rosatom Corporation’s RosRAO Federal State Unitary Enterprise’s press service reports.

The landfill has been part of Chelyabinsk since 1949 and is currently near 90 hectares large. According to the state-run environmental watchdog Rosprirodnadzor, the landfill was until recently responsible for 30% of the harmful air emissions in the area. The reclamation is part of the Environment National Project’s Clean Country sub-program. Under the Russian Government’s executive order, RosRAO is responsible for the implementation of the program in 2019-2020.

The expert board accepted the project documentation and the engineering survey report for the landfill and looked into the accuracy of the estimated costs; it is reported that the project designers have taken into account all the points made by the experts during their first audit of the project.

According to GlavGosExpertiza, the engineering survey report on the project involving Chelyabinsk’s District Metallurgicheskiy is accurate, the project documentation meets all the technical requirements and other standards, and the estimated costs are deemed accurate as well.

Within the framework of the project, the landfill will turn into a safe green hill suitable for a park by 2021. The air emissions have already gone down after the landfill got closed down this year; by the end of the project, the emissions will drop down to zero.
