EVRAZ NTMK Makes 3D-Printed Parts

18.04.2019
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, April 18, 2019. EVRAZ Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ NTMK) now uses a 3D printer to make a range of spare parts at its Band Wheel Department, EVRAZ Holding Ural’s Corporate Relations Center reports.

The parts in question are radial blocks for ultrasound testing of the bands; phase units for swing cantilever cranes; brush rig components; and protection covers for lathing units.

‘Thanks to this modern technology, our idle time reduced greatly since we always have all the necessary parts in stock. The prime cost of these parts is many times lower than that of their regular counterparts, and they only take a few work shifts to produce,’ the company says.

The plant’s 3D printer can print items out of various kinds of plastic: flake, silicone, or PVAC. EVRAZ NTMK intends to expand the range of its 3D-printed products, start making larger spare parts, and transfer the successful experience onto EVRAZ Holding Ural’s other member enterprises.
