MegaFon, Tyumen Region Government Become Digital Economy Partners

27.12.2018
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 27, 2018. Tyumen Region is expected to start using new telecom solutions and enjoy a much speedier telecommunication sector development in the next five years, as MegaFon and Tyumen Region Government signed a cooperation agreement to launch IT and telecommunication technologies in the area’s various economic sectors, MegaFon’s press service reports.

Governor of Tyumen Region Alexander Moor and MegaFon Ural’s Director Valeriy Velichko agreed to work together on a number of innovative projects and digital technologies, including certain components of the Smart City Project. To keep improving the local telecom infrastructure, the local government officials and MegaFon’s engineers are going to work with the science and research cadre in Tyumen Region’s colleges and universities.

One of the solutions MegaFon proposes is the digitalization of the healthcare sector, which is expected to improve the quality of healthcare services and make them more affordable as well as to increase the locals’ life expectancy. ‘Smart cities’ also focus on the urban transit sector and things like the use of geo analytics in urban infrastructure planning, AI-supported bus/tram stops, and smart vehicles.

‘Creating the conditions necessary for the digital economy’s development is one of our top priorities at the moment. To achieve this goal, we need to make sure the digital technologies become widely available and get used extensively by the authorities, the for-profit businesses, and the general public. Working in cooperation with telecommunications providers and ISPs has great potential for the implementation of the nationally important Russia’s Digital Economy Project. Good quality, affordable mobile and Internet connection is the crucial foundation for the area’s digital development and implementation of hi tech, innovative projects (such as Smart City, for example),’ says Governor of Tyumen Region Alexander Moor.
