Russian Copper Company Sets Annual Selenium Production Record in Kyshtym

20.12.2017
UrBC, Chelyabinsk, December 20, 2017. Russian Copper Company Group’s Kyshtym Copper Electrolysis Plant in Kyshtym, Chelyabinsk Oblast is going to set a selenium production record for the year 2017, with the annual output at 57,000 kg. The last record (48,300 kg) was set in 2014, the Group’s press service reports.

The plant managed to increase its selenium output thanks to fully switching to mineral raw stuffs supplied by Karabashmed. These stuffs have greater crude selenium content, which means Kyshtym Copper Electrolysis Plant’s engineers had to raise the refining department’s selenium-smelting furnaces’ capacity in order to process more selenium; the final selenium output thus rose from 4,800 kg to 5,700 kg a month.

‘Kyshtym Copper Electrolysis Plant’s selenium enjoys good demand on the Russian market. It’s used in the electronic goods and glass-making industries. It was, in fact, Kyshtym selenium that was used for the ruby stars of the Kremlin Towers in 1937, which explains the stars’ intense scarlet hues,’ the press service says.
