Crimea Trips to Cost More Due to VIM Avia Bankruptcy

10.10.2017
UrBC, Moscow, October 10, 2017. As VIM Avia Airlines are likely to stop operating, next summer’s trips might grow 10% to 20% more expensive, Vedomosti states.

According to current market players, the price increase will affect stays in Turkey, Sochi and the Crimea in the South of Russia, Greece, and Cyprus the most. VIM Avia was responsible for quite a few flights to these locations.

VIM Avia’s charrtered flight contracts with the national tour operators expire on October 15; still, the airline operated its very last flight as early as October 7, 2017. Director of the Russia’s Tour Operators Association Maia Lomidze believes the air carrier’s share of the chartered flights market stood at 15%.

Rosaviation reports VIM Avia’s passenger traffic rose by 31% in January-August 2017 compared with one year previously and thus amounted to 1.8m passengers. There are no other players this large on the national air travel market at the moment.
