1,200 People Join Ural Vagon Zavod’s Race

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, May 30, 2017. Over 1,200 people took part in Ural Vagon Zavod’s 75th track-and-field relay race, with prizes sponsored and given out by the company newspaper Mashinostroitel. This year, the race is dedicated to the newspaper’s 85th anniversary, as the very first issue came out on March 3, 1932, the company press service reports.

The first relay race with prizes by Kominternovets (as the newspaper was then called) took place in 1942; in the decades that followed, the event has come to be one of the largest-scale and most popular sports occasions in town.

At the start of the race, the runners received their welcome from the plant’s HR Director Sergey Saranchuk, chair of Ural Vagon Zavod’s trade union Evgeny Lutokhin, head of the plant’s youth group Svetlana Aldushina, Mashinostroitel’s editor-in-chief Elena Chernysheva, and others. Chernysheva wished all the amateur sportsmen and women success and great spirits.

101 teams (fifteen women’s teams, ten men’s teams, and seventy-six mixed ones) took part in the nine rounds of the race altogether. The overall distance came to 2,470 m. Every team had to go through eleven stages of the race. The teams comprised workers from the corporation member enterprises Volchansk Mechanical Plant, Electromachine, Uraltransmash, KULZ, Uralcryomash, Ural Railcar Building Design Office, and Ural Transport Machine-Building Design Office and officers of the Federal Firefighting Service who are in charge of ensuring fire safety at Ural Vagon Zavod.
