Sverdlovsk Region Government to Help Kachkanar Become SEZ

3.05.2017
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, May 3, 2017. Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuivashev asked the area’s Investment & Development Minister to personally supervise the promising production projects currently under way in Kachkanar and to help the town council in their applying for the status of a special economic zone/priority social and economic development area, the Governor’s Mid-Urals Information Policy Department reports.

According to Governor Kuivashev, about a third of Sverdlovsk Region’s population get directly affected by problems of one-employer towns. In Kachkanar, production is concentrated within EVRAZ Holding’s Kachkanar Ore Mining & Processing Enterprise (KGOK), with over 50% of the town’s working-age residents employed at the plant or involved in plant-related activity.

Nevertheless, Kuivashev says, this one-employer town needs diversification and a breakthrough in small and medium enterprises development.

‘I’m sure acquiring the status of a priority social and economic development area would boost Kachkanar’s dynamic development,’ he points out.

During his recent trip to Kachkanar, Evgeny Kuivashev took a tour of KGOK production site and the company’s Severny Mine. EVRAZ Vice President and head of Ural division Maxim Andriasov told the Governor about the company’s growth plans.
