5.04.2017
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, April 5, 2017. The number of meters and gadgets that automatically exchange their data online has gone up by 30% in the Urals in the last twelve months, the telecommunications provider MegaFon’s press service reports.

Thanks to the increased use of smart appliances, companies switch to autonomous business process mode ever more often and thus improve their efficiency.

‘For one, SIM cards are used to control street lighting in Spain; the light grows dimmer when streets are empty. Also, smart garbage containers report on getting filled; all this resulted in a 25% cut in street lighting and garbage collection spending. São Paulo and Beijing cut their water leakage by half by fitting their pumps and pipe systems with smart sensors,’ the company explains.

In the Urals, SIM cards are also used for machine-to-machine data transfer. The largest number of such smart gadgets that communicate within MegaFon network without human help is located in Chelyabinsk Region, Tyumen Region, and Sverdlovsk Region. Every one in four SIM cards is used within M2M scheme here. In the last twelve months, the Internet of things has also grown very popular in Komi, Udmurtia, Kirov, and Kurgan.
