Yekaterinburg: 80% of Locals Protest Retirement Age Rise

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, February 8, 2017. 82% of Yekaterinburg residents who took part in a recent survey disapprove of a possible increase in retirement age, 5% of those surveyed think this is a good idea, and 8% and 5% of respondents feel neutral or were undecided, respectively, zarplata.ru’s research findings indicate.

48% of an increased old-age pension age supporters agree that both men and women should become eligible for the payments at 64. Nearly a half (44%) of those surveyed would vote for the retirement age of 63 for women and 65 for men. Only under one in ten (8%) of respondents agree that both men and women should be able to start receiving old-age payments at 65.

Yekaterinburg residents also shared their plans on what funds they are going to rely on after reaching retirement age. Only 16% of those surveyed said they were counting on the state pension payments. Every one in ten people hopes for children’s and other relatives’ help. 14% are trying to save up already, and 2% have some real estate to rent. The better part of locals, however (54%) are planning to keep on working.
