Winter Park Opens in Akademicheskiy

19.12.2016
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 19, 2016. A winter amusement park opens in Yekaterinburg’s Akademicheskiy District on December 17, RSG-Akademicheskoye’s press service reports.

‘Ural artists and locals worked together to create Dobrye Yelki New Year Arts & Crafts Park. There park features an unusual New Year’s tree themed along Korney Chukovsky’s children’s tales that you can actually ‘flick through’, a seven-meter-high arch-shaped ‘fir tree’ made of decorative lights and season’s ornaments, and a sculpture of the mythical creature Pushmi-pullyu,’ the press service says.

All these objets d’art are provided with special decorations and lighting. In addition, there is a New Year’s tree alley, two telephone booths resembling those from the children’s tale Telephone, and eight ice sculptures portraying various animal characters from Chukovsky’s tales. The sculptures were made by students of local children’s art schools, with professionals’ guiding. The park is located on the site between two new apartment buildings at 11 and 13 Pavel Shamanov St.

This holiday season, Yekaterinburg is celebrating the fact that Korney Chukovsky was born 135 years ago this year, so the theme of this year’s ice sculpture park in the city’s main square is reminiscent of the famous children’s poet’s works. Akademicheskiy District follows suit by presenting its own New Year’s tales that have to do with Chukovsky. A four-meter-high book-like New Year’s tree is probably the most interesting exhibit. There are twelve pages to it, each page dedicated to one of Chukovsky’s tales and featuring the main characters and the best-known quotes. You can ‘flick through’ this New Year’s tree, read the stories, and take photos and selfies. Thanks to the lighting, you can do it both during the day and after dark,’ the press service says.

The winter park opens on Saturday, December 17.
