The city’s population might reach 1.5m people by the fall of 2016, provided the increase remains at 1,400 to 1,500 people a month, Yekaterinburg Council’s press service refers to the automated municipal population register as indicating. The number of people living in the city rose by 7,337 between January 1 and June 1, 2016, and currently comes to 1.492m residents. ‘Yekaterinburg only needs 7,526 more people to reach the 1.5m mark. If we keep getting 1,400 to 1,500 arrivals a month, the city will set this record as soon as this fall,’ the press service says. 21% of locals reside in the city’s Ordzhonikidzevsky District, 17% in Chkalovsky District, 15% in Kirovsky District, 14% in Verkh-Isetsky District, 13% in Leninsky District, and 10% each in Zheleznodorozhny and Oktyabrsky Districts.
