LEPSE masters laser welding

February 13, 2015. LEPSE Electric Machine-Building Plant (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) launched Combomax 400, a laser welding unit. This new Russian equipment, made by Bulat, was delivered onto the plant in late 2014 as part of the company’s import replacement program, the corporation’s press service reports.

The unit is meant for welding parts of electric mechanisms, eliminating the defects of castings, repairing compression molds, and for other operations where welding without thermal deformation is required.

‘Combomax 400 has a powerful laser beam source that allows the operator to weld metals over 1mm deep and perform overlay welding operations with 0.8mm wire. It is possible to adjust the settings for welding most metals and alloys. The new laser unit has an increased treatment coverage area, which means it can be used for welding or repair of large-sized parts,’ the press service says.

The laser unit is fitted with a numeric control system that makes it possible to weld along arbitrary shapes and weld together more than just two similarly or differently shaped parts. The new equipment, as LEPSE points out, will enhance product quality, improve production culture, and take the company to a new level of technical capacities.
