Lean production saves Uralvagonzavod Corporation 60m RUR

December 16, 2014. Uralvagonzavod Corporation saved around 60m RUR thanks to introduction of lean production principles in nine months of 2014.

According to the corporation’s press service, twelve of its member enterprises switched to lean manufacturing all in all.

It all began in May 2013 when one of Moscow’s Corporate Governance Center’s subdivisions started coordinating and monitoring the launch of the principles within the corporation. Lean production is now practiced at Uralcryomash, Uraltransmash, Plant 9, OmskTransMash, Burevestnik Research Institute, TETZ, Kamensk Uralsky Foundry Plant, ChTZ Uraltrac, Electromachine, LEPSE, Volchansk Mechanical Plant (a subsidiary of Uralvagonzavod), and Vityaz Machine-Building Company. Volchansk Mechanical Plant has proved to have the most mature lean production system so far.

‘It normally takes the system five to six years to permeate a business. Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s member enterprises are currently at the primary (and most fundamental) stage which consists in the development of the 5S strategy. This is the most clear-cut and easily implementable method for the organization of working space that makes it possible to nurture an absolutely new approach to a working environment. Personnel is key to this business concept. 5S allows workers to be immediately involved in the improvement process. The corporation has trained some 3,000 employees in the 5S principles so far and keeps introducing more people to it,’ the press service says.
