ChTPZ Group presents ‘White Metallurgy’ at Skolkovo

November 17, 2014. On November 13, Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant (ChTPZ) BOD Member Alexander Filatov made a presentation on ‘White Metallurgy’ as the philosophy of transformation during the Winning the Hearts Conference. The conference was dedicated to management of employee motivation and took place at the Skolkovo School of Management in Moscow on November 13-14, ChTPZ Group’s press service reports.

‘Existing research findings indicate that, in addition to managerial assets and investments in upgrades, a clear culture, philosophy, and shared values are key to a company’s success. True, any company is there to make money. Yet there is something beyond the dry business processes that unites a team. When one makes job choices, it is not only the pay but also the work climate as well as the company’s social status and reputation. A company’s mission is something that sets a super-goal, something that sends a message. Much in the same way a genetic code is, a mission is interwoven in all things big and small, in the work of the both the manager and the blue-collar worker, in that of both a sales and a production department employee,’ Filatov said.

The data the executive quoted in his presentation prove clearly that the company’s corporate culture benefits both its business and financial performance: turnover and absenteeism at the plant’s ‘White Metallurgy’ departments stand at a mere 9% a year, whereas the sector’s average comes to 25% and 10%, respectively. The ‘White Metallurgy’ enterprises attract the best specialists: over 50% of employees in these departments have a college degree (the sector’s average is 16%), they are, on average, 31 years old (the sector’s average is 40). ‘White Metallurgy’ departments can currently be found in ChTPZ Group’s ferrous metallurgical divisions at pipe-manufacturing plants, although in the future, the concept will transpire to all of the Group’s member enterprises.

40 top managers of Russian and foreign companies joined Winning the Hearts’ business program last year and over 500 top executives came to the conference altogether.
