Yekaterinburg cafes and restaurants to get English menus for World Cup 2018

The catering business in downtown Yekaterinburg and the ones close to sports facilities will have to get their menus translated into English and other foreign languages by the start of the world football championship in 2018, Deputy Mayor of Yekaterinburg for Consumer Market & Services Vladimir Bolikov said on air of Open Studio Yekaterinburg.

According to Bolikov, the café and restaurant staff will also have to speak Engish if they want to host the World Cup visitors.

’22 of our restaurants employ chefs from the far abroad. The staff (at least one or two people in every shift) must be able to understand their foreign guest, help them, comment on the menu or a particular dish, meet them and see them off, and so on,’ the Deputy Mayor said.

According to the city council’s information, over 2,000 catering business are run in Yekaterinburg, including 200 that actually offer their guests English menus. All in all, you can find 34 different cuisines in local restaurants. There are also 109 hotels and other types of traveler accommodation in Yekaterinburg. In 2014, two more hotels will be commissioned.

Bolikov said Yekaterinburg was already prepared for hosting the World Cup 2018 participating teams, official delegations, and FIFA partners.
