Russian Presidents Exhibition opens at Uralvagonzavod

20.09.2013
September 20, 2013. Uralvagonzavod’s exhibition facility is now hosting an unusual exhibition called Russia’s Presidents. The exhibition is mainly compiled from a collection created by Art-Sfera and comprises fine art, sculpture, sketching, and 3D objects dedicated to the three presidents of the Russian Federation: Boris Yeltsin, Dmitri Medvedev, and the current president Vladimir Putin, Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation’s press release says.

The exhibition features over 40 works by 30 prominent Russian artists from different parts of Russia: Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Perm, Omsk, Nizhniy Tagil, Yekaterinburg, Kamensk-Uralsky, and Krasnokamsk. There are also works by a French artist. Most of the exhibits are portraits. This is a portable exhibition and it will be completed with more works in the future.

‘This is a unique project. This is the first time the painted portraits of our presidents have been collected in one place in Russia. There are millions of photographs taken of Russian presidents under different angles, but there are very few portraits that show the line of character that artists see in them,’ the manager of this project, Art-Sfera’s Director-General Vladislav Zhakov-Zepernyat said at the opening ceremony.

‘The artists present at the exhibition were quite happy to present their works. In 1992, Nikolai Fedoreyev, an artist whose hometown was the same as that of Boris Yeltsin, created a series of large-size portraits of the first Russian president that were completed in Andy Warhol style (pop art) and a very peculiar objet d’art called Communist Yeltsin that has not been exhibited since 1988,’ the press release says.
