Lenin Ave in Yekaterinburg might get six lanes for World Cup 2018

June 18, 2013. A meeting on Yekaterinburg transportation infrastructure development in preparation for the World Football Championship 2018 was held by Sverdlovsk Region Prime Minister Denis Pasler. The event was attended by Transport & Communications and Physical Education, Sports, & Youth Policy Ministers, Head of Yekaterinburg Administration Alexander Yakob, and heads of the city’s construction and architecture departments, Sverdlovsk Region Government’s Press Service & Information Administration reports.

‘We are still on the issues relating to preparing for hosting the World Cup 2018. The development of roads and transport infrastructure is one of the most important things at the moment. Governor Evgeny Kuivashev attended the Russian Government meeting in early June that was dedicated to the national program on holding the Mundial in Russia. The most important thing for us is that it was decided that only Yekaterinburg Central Stadium would be used for the championship in this city. This means that we have a certain amount of road construction jobs to do before the championship begins,’ Pasler said.

He also pointed out that the national program did not cover the construction or reconstruction of Yekaterinburg transport network.

‘To get federal funding, we must get on the special federally coordinated programs. The deadline for applying for subsidies starting from 2014 is quite strict: September 1, 2013,’ he noted.
