Airport air quality below hygienic standards, watchdog says

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 19, 2010. Sverdlovsk Region’s division of Rospotrebnadzor (the state consumer rights watchdog) placed all the materials related to the poor sanitary condition of Yekaterinburg-based Koltsovo Airport with the regional public prosecution authorities, the division informed Sutyazhnik, an NGO.
Rospotrebnadzor’s regional division told Sutyazhnik that the quality of atmospheric air in the area affected by discharges does not meet the existing hygienic requirements. For one, the ethyl benzene content in the air exceeds the norms by 2.4 to 5.6 times; these data are stated in Logs
2037 and 2990 as of March 17, 2008. According to Logs 1693 and 2402 completed on March 18, 2009, the ethyl benzene content in the air was exceeded by 1.6 times. In addition, the nitrogen dioxide content exceeds the current limits by 1.4 to 3 times, the lead content exceeds the norms by 1.2 to 4.7 times.
