Sienko breaks his word, Governor says

7 July 2009 (08:14)

‘Uralvagonzavod’s General Director Oleg Sienko did not keep his promise. The enterprise did not start operating normally on July 1, 2009, and the workers are still threatened with mass redundancies,’ Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Eduard Rossel said at the district’s crisis-defying committee meeting chaired by Plenipotentiary Representative of Russian Federation President in Ural Federal District Nikolai Vinnichenko.

In the meantime, the plant’s trade union reported on July 2, 2009 that Uralvagonzavod’s management intended to lay off 15,000 workers, who would be paid two-thirds of their wages for the time being, while all the social benefits schemes would be abandoned temporarily.

Nevertheless, the plant’s top executives personally promised to Eduard Rossel that no such steps would be taken.
