17 January 2007 (11:56)
Koltsovo Airport assessed its activity in 2006. Its passenger traffic amounted to 1,764,948 people, including 1,128,489 passengers who used domestic flights, 488,954 people who used international flights, and 147,505 passengers who travelled to the countries of the CIS. The figure reached the point of 1.5 million people as early as the beginning of November.
The airport serviced 13,289 take-offs in 2006, with 10,013 planes going to different Russian cities, 2,349 aircrafts going abroad, and 927 airplanes flying to the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Koltsovo Airport handled 15,519.1 tons of cargo and mail in January-December 2006, which exceeds last year’s figures (11, 544.9) by 34.4% due to the dramatic drop in the amount of airborne cargo in 2005 brought about by the increased customs duties. The total volume of domestic cargo and mail came to 10,513.3 tons, that of international cargo and mail amounted to 4,857.6 tons (which is 55.6% better that a year earlier), that of cargo and mail going to and from the countries of the CIS reached the point of 546.2 tons (which is 83.5% better than in 2005).
The airport experts believe the increase in the number of flights performed and the amount of cargo handled has to do with the improved living standards that led to people flying more often, says the airport’s press officer.
