The law-enforcement agencies of Sverdlovsk Region keep revealing and preventing cases of production or sales of consumer goods that do not meet the health and safety requirements. This year, the public prosecution authorities have initiated over 1,200 criminal suits that have to do with production, storekeeping, transportation, or sales of goods or rendering services that are unsafe (Article 238 of the Criminal Code). Over 1,000 claims were placed with the courts after the inquiry.

The public prosecution bodies of Zheleznodorozhniy district of Yekaterinburg started criminal action against a company that stored 68 tons of rice that was unsuitable either in terms of health or safety. This rice, imported from Vietnam, was revealed to contain the kind of pesticide that poses certain threats to human life.

The same kind of pesticide was found in Uzbekistan-produced grapes sold in one of the kiosks in Bardin St. This incident resulted in a criminal lawsuit, too, and another one was started after one pharmacy in Pobeda St. was proved to sell an unsafe anti-infective agent.

The police officers of the districts where the crimes have occurred are now investigating the cases.
