FGC UES Removes Rush from Electric Mains

13 March 2020 (11:27)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, March 13, 2020. RosSet’s Federal Grid Company United Energy Systems (FGC UES) cleared 116 hectares of electric mains responsible for power transfer between Chelyabinsk Region and its neighbor constituencies from excessive bulrush growth; the clearing process touched upon nineteen 100-500 kV mains.

According to FGC UES’s Ural division’s PR & media group, the warm winter the Urals enjoyed this year resulted in swampy areas not turning into proper solid ice, which is why swamp buggies and snow tractors had to get used for the clearing jobs. The vehicles were applied at the 500-kV Iriklinskaya Power Station-Magnitogorskaya Main and Kurchatovskaya-Shagol Main.

Doing all the clearing jobs on time greatly reduces the risk of potential fires spreading fast and damaging the mains badly.

‘Our 500-kV Iriklinskaya Power Station-Magnitogorskaya Main is 220 km long. The main supplies electric power to end users in Magnitogorsk and to Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK). The main is also part of Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Station’s power transfer system and is in charge of ensuring reliable power supply to end users in Chelyabinsk and large industrial enterprises in Chelyabinsk Region,’ the company says.
