SKB-Bank Launches QR Code Payments at Filling Stations
20 February 2020 (09:08)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, February 20, 2020. For the first time in Russia, you can now pay for your gasoline using a QR code within the Faster Payments System. The initiative has been put forth by SKB-Bank, Benzuber, and the National Payment Card System, SKB-Bank’s press service reports.
‘For the first time in Russia, FPS-enabled QR code payments were made available at filling stations in February 2020. This means the station owner who works with the FPS can cut overheads by paying less per transaction. The car owners, in their turn, can enjoy an easier and faster way of filling up their tanks,’ the press service says.
The project gets piloted at VARTA filling station chain in Sverdlovsk Region.
According to the project developers, over 2,000 filling stations all over the country will join in by June 2020 (and as many a 4,000 by the end of the year). The first 3,500 stations already connected to the Benzuber infrastructure (which allows you to pay from your phone) started getting integrated into the system in February.
