MegaFon to Hold 1st 5G Cyber-Sports Championship

UrBC, Moscow, August 26, 2019. MegaFon is going to hold the very first 5G- and Cloud Gaming-supported cyber-sports championship; an actual fifth-generation base station will be used in the course of the competition, the telecom company’s press service reports.
Dota 2 5G Championship by MegaFon is Russia’s first pilot project on the use of 5G and Cloud Gaming technologies in the digital entertainment industry. Winstrike Team, one of the strongest teams in the country, will take part in the event. The championship will take place at Moscow City as part of Dota2 The International 2019 SuperTournament; the competition is getting coordinated by MegaFon in cooperation with the cyber-sports holding ESforce.
5G equipment by the leading global supplier Huawei and Cloud Gaming solutions by the Russian platform Loudplay got integrated into a single eco-system for the championship. This synergy means the contestants can play online games using a regular computer and a smartphone (which works as a modem).
According to the company’s chief technology and IT officer (CTIO) Frederic Vanoosthuyze, coordinating Russia’s first 5G cyber-sports championship is a tremendous challenge and a great honor for MegaFon.
