UrBC, Magnitogorsk, August 20, 2019. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) supplied over 314,000,000 kg of metal goods to car makers in the first half of 2019, which exceeded the figures for one year earlier by 23%.

According to MMK’s Information & PR Department, the plant sold 7.5% of its produce to car makers in the first six months of 2019 all in all. Sales to AvtoVAZ, UAZ, and Volkswagen rose considerably. Now MMK is the leading ferrous metal goods supplier for car factories and car part manufacturers. The plant supplies cold-rolled and hot-dip-galvanized rolled goods to all the major players on the Russian car manufacturing market as well as to the international car makers with local factories. Many of the plant’s customers buy 50% to 80% of their metal from MMK.

‘The launch of the new cold-roll Mill 2000 at the plant’s Sheet-Rolling Department 11 in 2011-2012 was a major factor in MMK building its share of the metal-goods-for-car-makers market. The new mill allowed us to compete with foreign manufacturers, meet the strictest surface quality requirements set out for cold-rolled and hot-dip-galvanized rolled metal goods, produce items with the necessary thickness parameters, and make the highly durable IF-HS, HSLA, BH, and DP steels that are popular with car makers and car part manufacturers,’ the company says.

In 2018, Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works sold nearly 550,000,000 kg of metal goods to car makers, which was the company’s all-time high. This year, MMK intends to sell at least 600,000,000 kg of produce to automobile manufacturers all in all.
