UBRD: Mortgage Comes to RUB 1.5m on Average in Chelyabinsk Region

UrBC, Chelyabinsk, July 18, 2019. According to the Ural Bank for Reconstruction & Development (UBRD), a mortgage loan issued in Chelyabinsk Region comes to RUB 1.5m on average (judging by the data of Chelyabinsk Region-based borrowers with mortgages as of June 1, 2019).
‘It turns out that a Chelyabinsk Region-based successful mortgage applicant is, on average, 39 years old. Interestingly, there are slightly more female applicants than male ones (the ratio is 52: 48). People with families take out mortgage loans more often than other categories of applicants, and their mortgages are on average 25% larger than those taken out by singles,’ the bank says.
As it happens, single women outnumber the married ones by 25% in the female mortgage-taker segment. On the contrary, the overwhelming majority of male mortgage applicants (63%) are married.
Director at UBRD Southern Urals branch Galina Rodina says this statistics stems from the fact that women start considering getting a home of their own regardless of what their marital status is.
‘Men, on the other hand, tend to start prioritizing home owning only after getting married. They often assume responsibility for bearing the family’s financial burden, so a mortgage is generally issued in their name,’ Rodina explains.
With all these parameters taken into account, a ‘typical’ mortgage applicant on Chelyabinsk Region’s market is a 39-year old single woman who applies for a RUB 1.5m loan.
